Sempervivum 'Commander Hay' Hens & Chicks, 4" Pot Live Plant

Sempervivum ‘Commander Hay’, also known as Hens and Chicks, is a mat-forming succulent perennial. It forms attractive, evergreen rosettes with fleshy, purplish-red leaves adorned with pointed, bright green tips. The mother rosette (Hen) spreads in all directions by horizontal stems to form offsets (chicks). These offsets develop their own roots and become independent of the parent plant. In summer, a thick flowering stalk arises from the center of the hen rosette, bearing showy starry, greenish-red flowers. Sempervivums are monocarpic, meaning they die after flowering, but the offsets they produce usually fill the gaps left by the dead rosettes. This tough plant is tolerant of heat, drought, and shade. It grows up to 4-6 inches tall and 9-12 inches wide, spreading by offsets to form colonies. Sempervivums thrive in well-drained soils, making them excellent for rock gardens, succulent gardens, or Mediterranean landscapes
