Sempervivum ‘Sunset’, commonly known as Hens and Chicks, is a delightful succulent plant that adds a touch of nostalgia to gardens. The emerald green fleshy rosettes have red tips that transform into gleaming sunset tones of orange during cool weather.
Mature plants produce short, thick flower spikes with star-shaped pink flowers.
It’s a carefree, sun-loving succulent that thrives in hot and dry conditions. Once established, it’s very drought-tolerant.
Rosettes of leaves (the “hens”) send out many offsets (the “chicks”), which can be pulled off and transplanted.
- Size: Typically grows 1-2 inches tall and spreads 4-6 inches wide.
