Lewisia, aka Bitterroot, is a plant genus, named for the American explorer Meriwether Lewis (1774-1809) who encountered the species in 1806.

Loved by bees and butterflies, these easy care plants do well as border plants, container plants, and rock garden plants as long as the soil is well-draining.
